Description
Beautiful contra guitar (Schrammelgitarre) in the style of a Viennese Stauffer guitar.
This type of guitar was invented in Vienna in the middle of the 19th century and quickly became very popular.
Famous guitar builders like Johan Georg Stauffer, Johann Gottfried Scherzer and Franz Angerer made such instruments.
The contra guitar is therefore perfectly suitable for accompaniment in the field of folk and Schrammel music. But nowadays it is also used in modern music and jazz.
This beautiful guitar was built in the style of the famous Viennese guitars. The builder is unfortunately unknown.
It has the unmistakable Stauffer headstock construction and is also completely built in the traditional Viennese style.
The guitar can be dated around 1890. It is therefore an authentic instrument to revive the music of that time in an authentic way.
It has 13 strings and an adjustable neck.
The sound is very beautiful, virtuosic and suitable for concerts. The combination of maple (back and sides) and fine spruce for the top of this guitar is pure magic. Maple gives clarity to the sound, while the spruce top provides the tonal flexibility and magic that only an old, masterfully built romantic guitar can create.
The guitar has a very fast response and can be surprisingly loud. At the same time it preserves a wide range of beautiful timbres in all registers.
The condition is very good for its age. Slight restorations have been made to bring the guitar into a playable and fully stable condition.
