Vicente Pascual ~1900 – A Rare and Exquisite Handcrafted Classical Guitar in Torres Style with a Beautiful, Timeless Sound

Vicente Pascual was a highly skilled guitar maker from Valencia, whose craftsmanship flourished around the same time as the legendary Salvador Ibanez. Though little is known about his personal life, his work speaks volumes. Pascual worked as a luthier in the workshop of Salvador Ibanez, where he played an essential role in building high-quality guitars. Alongside his employment at Ibanez, he also produced instruments under his own name, showcasing his refined artistry and deep understanding of traditional Spanish guitar-making.

This extraordinary guitar, built around 1900, is a prime example of Pascual’s exceptional craftsmanship. Unlike standard production guitars of the time, this instrument was likely a custom commission for a discerning musician. It stands out for its impeccable construction, superior tonewoods, and fine detailing, making it a remarkable instrument even among historic Spanish guitars.

The guitar features a beautifully aged spruce top that has matured gracefully over the decades, contributing to its warm and resonant tone. The back and sides are crafted from high-quality rosewood, adding depth and richness to the sound. With a scale length of 650 mm and a nut width of 52 mm, it offers a comfortable playing experience, balancing precision and ease of playability. The action is set at an ideal height—3.5 mm on the low E string and 2.9 mm on the high e string at the 12th fret—ensuring effortless responsiveness while maintaining the guitar’s authentic vintage feel.

The tone of this Vicente Pascual guitar is nothing short of breathtaking. The century-old tonewoods have developed a beautifully refined voice, rich in overtones and full of character. The sound is warm, sweet, and harmonically complex, with an elegant balance between bass and treble. Each note resonates with remarkable clarity and separation, yet blends seamlessly into a lush, cohesive tonal landscape.

One of the most captivating qualities of this instrument is its liveliness. The guitar vibrates against the player’s body, creating an intimate and immersive playing experience. It is incredibly responsive to touch, rewarding both gentle, nuanced phrasing and more dynamic, expressive playing styles. The sheer power and depth of its projection are reminiscent of the legendary guitars of Antonio de Torres, making it an instrument that can fill a concert hall while maintaining its warmth and subtlety.

For an instrument that is over 120 years old, this guitar is in astonishingly well-preserved condition. The label has unfortunately faded a bit. The careful craftsmanship and choice of premium materials have allowed this guitar to age gracefully, both visually and tonally. It remains structurally sound, with no major repairs or damage (a small crack has been repaired on the top), and retains its original character and charm.

The guitar comes with a brand-new hard case, ensuring its protection and longevity for future generations of musicians and collectors.

This Vicente Pascual guitar is an exceptional and historically significant instrument, offering a rare glimpse into the golden era of Spanish luthiery. Its superb craftsmanship, exquisite sound, and outstanding condition make it a truly remarkable find for collectors, performers, and enthusiasts of fine vintage guitars. A unique opportunity to own a guitar that not only tells a story of Spanish guitar-making history but also delivers an unparalleled playing experience.
