Description
Rafael Montes 2003 flamenco guitar – handmade masterpiece with great sound and great playability!
Rafael Montes is a master luthier with a special story.
At the age of 14, he became an apprentice in the famous workshop of Juan Estruch. The workshop of Juan Estruch has existed since 1880. There he first became a master luthier and eventually, due to his special achievements, workshop manager.
After the death of Juan Estruch, his widow took over the company and Rafael Montes continued as workshop manager. During this time, however, he also began making guitars under his own name, all of which are handmade individual pieces.
This flamenco guitar is a real masterpiece by Rafael Montes. It has a fine spruce top and beautiful cypress back and sides. It is in very good condition and plays very comfortably all the way down the neck, with a low action and a straight neck. The action is 2.9 mm E and 2.2 mm e at the 12th fret and the saddle of the bridge still has room for further adjustments in the future. The scale length is 650 mm and the nut width 52 mm.
This guitar plays really well and produces an impressive flamenco sound – very Spanish with a mystical and warm nuance. It has an immediate attack with a honey-like, deep, woody texture. The guitar is light and spontabeous, typical for the good flamenco guitars. We love this guitar as it has also this lyrical, singing quality to the sound. The bases are thick and well present. It can be very loud with a piercing volume and still it retains a charming tone.
It is a truly graceful instrument with a fascinating sound.
It comes with the original case.
