Miguel Rodriguez ~1915 – A Fine Handbuilt Classical Guitar, by one of the greatest luthiers of all time, with an Exquisite and Timeless Sound

The classical guitars of Miguel Rodriguez have long been cherished by world-renowned musicians, most notably the legendary Romero family. Miguel Rodriguez was the founder of a dynasty of four generations of master luthiers, crafting instruments that have shaped the sound of classical and flamenco guitar for over a century. This particular guitar, built around 1915, is a rare and extraordinary example from the early years of Rodriguez’s craftsmanship—an instrument of exceptional historical and musical value.

The guitar is built with the utmost precision, featuring a fine-grained spruce top and beautifully figured maple for the back and sides. True to the tradition of early 20th-century Spanish guitar-making, it is lightly constructed and very resonant. The scale length is 625 mm, and the nut width is 48 mm, ensuring a comfortable playing experience.

The tone of this instrument embodies all the hallmarks of a high-end, handmade guitar from the golden age of Spanish luthiery, deeply influenced by the legacy of Antonio de Torres. The sound is lively, dry, and highly responsive, with deep, resonant basses and rich, velvety trebles. Its high registers are sweet and expressive, producing a singing voice that lends itself beautifully to a wide range of musical styles. This is a guitar that truly comes alive in the hands of the player—its vibrant character makes it a joy to play and nearly impossible to put down.

This instrument is in excellent condition for its age – hard to find a more than 100 years old guitar in that condition. The action is comfortably low (2.8 mm E and 2.3 mm e at the 12th fret), allowing for effortless performance. It comes with a high-quality guitar case. The guitar case alone is an attraction in itself. Handmade and finely crafted, it fits this guitar perfectly. Even if the case date is 1902, the guitar was certainly built around 1915, which can be deduced from the label and the specialist literature on Miguel Rodriguez.

Guitars from the earliest period of Miguel Rodriguez’s craftsmanship are incredibly rare and seldom appear on the market. This is a remarkable opportunity to own a piece of guitar-making history—an instrument that offers both collectors and performers an unparalleled combination of tone, tradition, and artistry.
