Description
We offer here a Martin 0 – 18 Koa from 1923. An absolute first class instrument and a rare piece of the coveted “Pre War” instruments by Martin.
The Martin “Pre War” guitars, from the time before the 2nd World War, are very popular in collectors circles. These guitars combine the best materials, a sound-optimized construction and careful craftsmanship to form unique dream instruments. The number of guitars built by Martin was very low at that time, so that very few “Pre War” Martins are for sale today.
The koa construction offers an extra portion of clarity and was only used for a limited number of instruments.
This 0 – 18 sounds really very, very, very good. The sound has developped nicely and is perfectly balanced, with present mids, crystal clear highs and booming basses (amazing what comes out of this small body). The small 0 – body gives the sound an additional round nuance and a great projection.
It is a lightweight guitar and responds very nice to the lightest touch – its really a joy to play.
The guitar is in good condition for the age. As you can see. It has some old and very professional repairs and the finish has been nicely refreshed.
The neck is straight, the frets are good and the action is low.
It comes with a beaten up but original case.
