Description

Marcelo Barbero 1936 Bandurria – rare instrument of this famous Spanish luthier!

Marcelo Barbero was born in Madrid in 1904. Marcelo was trained by José Ramirez II, and gave José Ramirez III his initial lessons in guitar building. When Santos Hernandez died in 1943, Marcelo spoke to his widow about taking over her husband’s old shop. She employed Marcelo Barbero first to complete some guitars that Santos had left partially built. Then she asked him to make guitars for her. Marcelo Barbero trained Arcángel Fernández.

Working in Santos’ workshop at the famous Aduana 23 location, Barbero completed the construction of several guitars. So, he used Santos’ parts and tools. Barbero is the only maker in history to have been in this unique position. It was there that he learned first-hand, many of the secrets that Santos kept to himself during his lifetime.

Marcelo Barbero is one of the legendary luthiers of the 20th century. His instruments are extremely rare and much admired.

This nice little Bandurria is made with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. It has been nicely restored to keep it in the original condition. It has the original hard case too.

It is completely playable.
