Lorenz Kriner II ~1870 – very well made and excellent sounding terz guitar!
Lorenz Kriner II was the son and student of his father of the same name, Lorenz Kriner I. The Kriner family has a long tradition of instrument making. They were known as skilful craftsmen who made violins, guitars and zithers. Lorenz Kriner I’s father’s workshop was taken over by his other son Josef Kriner. Lorenz Kriner II therefore settled in Stuttgart in 1863 and opened his workshop there. He continued to work in Stuttgart until 1878, before emigrating to America and continuing his work there.
This guitar is a real gem – you can immediately see the great quality of the craftsmanship and the high quality materials used to build this guitar.
The back and sides are made of beautiful flamed maple. The scale length of the guitar is 560 mm and the nut width is 48 mm.
This guitar is built as light as a feather and optimised down to the last detail.
As a result, it has a sound that only the best guitars from this period can achieve. The guitar has a very fast response and can be surprisingly loud despite its small body. At the same time, it retains a broad spectrum of beautiful timbres in all registers.
The condition of the guitar is excellent for its age. It has been expertly restored by Paul Janssen. It is very easy to play with a straight neck and low action.
