Description

Joseph Garaboeuf, known as Lacombe ~1850 … Romantic guitar in the style of Lacote – a beautifully built and very good sounding guitar.

This finely built guitar has a mark on the back that reads “Lacombe a Nantes”. Lacombe was the name given to the violin and guitar maker Joseph Garaboeuf. Garaboeuf’s instruments are known for their excellent craftsmanship and outstanding musical qualities. His violins did indeed fetch prices beyond €20,000 at auctions. There are very few guitars by this master that have survived to the present day.

This guitar was built around 1850 with very good materials and with highly professional craftsmanship. We can’t find a date anywhere, but the construction style clearly indicates a guitar in the style of Lacote’s instruments around 1850.

The guitar sounds fantastic and can definitely compete with the best Lacote instruments. The finely built body gives this guitar a very complex and indeed loud sound.
Nevertheless, the sound is above all charming and sweet and this guitar is perfect to get closer to the authentic sound of the music of composers like Sor, Giuliani, Aguado, Legnani, Diabelli, Carulli, Coste and Legnani, just to name a few!
This is a dream guitar that brings out the most beautiful timbres. It is truly a masterfully built instrument and was certainly used for concerts by a professional musician at the time.

The condition is very good for its age. It has been lightly restored. The guitar plays easily, has a straight neck and a pleasantly low action.
The nut width is 48 mm and the scale length is 645 mm. The top is made of fine spruce, back and sides of extremely beautiful birdseye maple.
