Description

J. Cortes ~ 1900 very special classical guitar from Valencia

J. Cortes was a small guitar manufacturer in Valencia around the turn of the century and until the 1930’s. Similar to Salvador Ibanez, Telesforo Julve or Andres Marin, Cortes mainly made Torres style guitars.

This guitar is very special because it has very deep sides, producing a very pleasant deep tone.
The top is made of spruce, back and sides are made of walnut. The scale length is 632 mm and the nut width is 48 mm.

The construction of the guitar is in the pre-Torres style of guitars from Cadiz, which had deeper sides and a baroque body shape.
The guitar sounds very nice and immediately impresses with a very deep and voluminous tone. The basses are deep and growly and the trebles are mellow, lively and colorful with great expressiveness.
Because of its age and light weight, the sound is woody, with a great amount of tonal modulation and dynamics. This guitar produces sweet tones that have a lot of charm.

The guitar is in good condition for its age. It is perfectly playable with a straight neck and a nice low action. The right tuning machine head has been repaired, works perfectly.
