Guild D-44 1967 – cool vintage player with very impressive vintage sound!
Guild is one of the big US-American manufacturers of guitars beside Martin and Gibson. The company was founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge and George Mann. By 1956 Guild was already so successful that they had to move to larger premises in Hoboken, New Jersey. Here some of the Guild guitars that are in great demand today were built.
During the 1950’s and 1960’s, Guild supplied many of the famous musicians and became increasingly popular.
From this golden age of Guild comes this great D-44. The D-44 was launched in 1965. It has pearwood back and sides instead of mahogany, used for the D-40. These dreadnoughts were designed for balance and projection to help the guitars stand out against a full bluegrass band.
It sounds resonant and punchy, with a full tone and great clarity and definition. It’s a very responsive guitar, with a very comfortable playing action (had a neck reset) and a great feeling neck.
This Guild D-44 1967 is in players grade condition. It is fully playable and has been checked by our luthier to insure that playability and stability are gauranteed. The guitar had a neck reset and plays great with a low action. The following things have to be mentioned: It has non original Grover tuners from the same period, a previously installed pickup has been removed, two cracks on the back and 2 on the sides have been repaired.
It comes with the original case.
