For the first period of the Big Band era, guitarists played chords hardly heard in the rhythm section. This guitar changed that overnight.
Gibson’s groundbreaking ES-150 (“Electric Spanish’) model was Gibson’s first 6 string guitar to be fitted with a magnetic pickup and was the world’s first successful electric guitar.
Played by jazz guitarist Charlie Christian, the ES-150 became his guitar, who almost single-handedly invented modern solo jazz guitar. The 150 has been known to players as the “Charlie Christian model” ever since. With its massive bar magnet, the ES-150 pickup captivated a generation of jazz guitarists, Barney Kessel, Jimmy Raney and many more.
Hand carved solid spruce top with a Sunburst finish, solid figured maple back and sides, one-piece mahogany comfortable neck, rosewood fingerboard, pearl script logo and fingerboard inlays, bound body.
Original adjustable rosewood bridge, original Grover open back tuners with oval keys, original nickel trapeze tailpiece, Original Charlie Cristian single coil pickup (pre-P-90 pickup), with original bakelite arrow knobs.
Guitar is in excellent condition for the age, without any cracks or repairs. The serial number has faded, as this is often the case with these guitar being over 80 years old. We could date it to 1941 acording to the specs and to the previous owners information.
The tuners are newer ones. It comes with a vintage case, but non original. It is ready to play with comfortable low action.
