Description
Gerold Karl Hannabach 1976 – fine handmade classical guitar – an outstanding sounding instrument!
Gerold Karl Hannabach was born in Schönbach (today: Luby, Czech Republic) in 1928 and grew up in a family of string makers. He had to leave his home at the age of 17 and followed other Schönbachers to Bubenreuth, where he began an apprenticeship as a plucked instrument maker with Arnold Hoyer. He completed this in 1953 and set up his own workshop. In 1966, he passed his examination as a master guitar maker and has since worked as a lecturer in musical instrument making at various institutions. He has also received numerous awards for his work, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Gerold Karl Hannabach is one of the most famous German guitar makers.
This magnificent concert guitar model from 1976, number 346, is in very good condition, with only a few signs of play and use.
The guitar is impeccably built and has the traditional Hannabach look with a particularly elaborate headstock. The scale length is 650 mm and the nut width is 52 mm. The top is made of fine spruce, the back and sides of rosewood.
The sound is remarkably balanced and it sounds and plays a bit like a Hauser guitar. It has a very charming, woody “old world” sound and would make an excellent recording instrument.
It is braced with Torres-style fan-braces, which gives the guitar a loose, warm and very open sound while maintaining excellent clarity. It also has plenty of power and is definitely an instrument for the concert hall.
This Gerold Karl Hannabach 1976 is overall a very beautiful guitar that is part of the rich tradition of German guitar making.
