Gabriel Lemböck ~1870 – high-quality Romantic guitar by the leading Viennese instrument maker of his time!
Gabriel Lemböck was born in Ofen near Budapest in 1814. At the age of just 13 he began an apprenticeship with the famous instrument maker Johann Baptist Schweitzer.
From 1840, he went to Vienna to initially work for Anton Fischer. Some time later he went into business for himself and later took over the business of Bernhard Stoß.
Lemböck was a very good and active instrument maker. His main focus was on violin making, but he is also known for having made high-quality guitars.
His participation in various industrial and world exhibitions earned Lemböck numerous honors. He was also court instrument maker and supplier to the conservatory in Vienna.
He was also a sought-after repairer and traded in valuable master instruments. The surviving account books document contacts with customers in most European countries as well as in Australia, South and North America. Leading representatives of Viennese musical and cultural life were among his customers.
Gabriel Lemböck was the leading Viennese instrument maker in the late 19th century. He died in Vienna in 1892.
