Antonio Raya Pardo 1980 – very nice classical guitar handmade in Granada
Spanish guitar maker Antonio Raya Pardo was born in Huelva (Jaen) in 1950, but his family moved to Granada when he was fourteen years old. Like so many luthiers of his generation, he was apprenticed to Eduardo Ferrer and eventually married Pilar Ferrer, Eduardo’s granddaughter. Later he continued his training with Jose Lopez Bellido.
In the early 70’s he decided to open his own workshop. Despite this training, Antonio considers himself largely self-taught. Nevertheless, he notes that among the guitar makers in Granada, “no one is alone, there are always friends to help you.” Antonio Marin Montero is one such friend who has given him valuable advice, as he admits. Antonio Raya Pardo builds handmade classical and flamenco guitars using traditional methods.
This guitar has a cedar top and rosewood back and sides. The scale length is 664 mm and the nut width 52 mm.
This guitar is not only powerful, responsive and easy to play like the instruments of the Granada school, but has good clarity, a beautiful tone and projects extremly well.
We love this great guitar as the sound is not only loud and powerful, but also has this soulful Granada flair.
The separation between the different notes is clear and incredibly balanced, across the entire range. It has develloped a nice vintage character to the sound as well.
It is in great condition with only some amount of wear from play and use. The neck is straight and it plays great with a low action. It comes with a suitable guitar case.
