Antonio de Torres SE 112 1888 built by Sergio Sanchez in 2016 – an extremely well-made and true-to-original replica!
Sergio Sanchez’s passion for classical guitars began at a very young age. He took lessons from Tomas Lucero and Oscar Giunta and began a career as a classical guitarist.
However, this career was interrupted when he lost a finger on his left hand in an accident. After this tragic event, Sergio Sanchez dedicated himself to building guitars in order to remain true to his passion.
He first visited the guitar makers’ workshops in Granada and learned first from Manuel Villafranca and then from Juan Miguel Carmona. He later opened his own workshop in Almeria, the birthplace and home of Antonio de Torres and the modern Spanish guitar.
As a musician, he has a very unique approach to guitar making, which has sensitized him to the needs of the guitarist and made him very demanding, not only in terms of manufacturing, but also in terms of the choice of materials, humidity conditions, storage and building temperatures. All of his instruments are lovingly handcrafted, which means that they are of an extremely high standard in terms of sound and perfect playability.
This beautifully crafted guitar is a replica of the Torres SE 112 from 1888. It has a fine spruce top and a very beautiful back made of birdseye maple. The sides are also made of birdseye maple. The guitar has a scale length of 650 mm and a nut width of 51 mm.
Words are not enough to describe the rich and harmonious sound of this excellently built guitar. Be it the beauty of individual notes, melodic sequences or the blending of notes in counterpoint or chordal harmony – this fine guitar inspires in all aspects. In addition, there is the unique experience of feeling the resonance of the guitar on your own body while playing, which is possible due to the very light construction of the guitar.
