Beautiful contra guitar (Schrammelgitarre) in the style of a Viennese Stauffer guitar – highest

This type of guitar was invented in Vienna in the middle of the 19th century and quickly became very popular.
Famous guitar builders like Johan Georg Stauffer, Johann Gottfried Scherzer and Franz Angerer made such instruments.
The contra guitar is therefore perfectly suitable for accompaniment in the field of folk and Schrammel music. But nowadays it is also used in modern music and jazz.

This beautiful guitar was built in the style of the famous Viennese guitars. There is no label inside this great guitar, which is a pity because we would have liked to know who built this guitar in such a wonderful way.

Let’s briefly discuss the highlights of this guitar:

First of all, there is the fantastically crafted bridge – with its excellent carvings, it is an absolute eye-catcher. The bridge has a kind of tremolo, a movable bridge inlay for the treble strings – such an amazing construction amazed all the experts we asked.

Furthermore, this guitar has a beautiful headstock in Stauffer style, where the bass strings run over an individual saddle.

The guitar also has the sought-after and proven neck adjustment mechanism, which was also invented by Stauffer.

The guitar can be dated around 1900. It is therefore an authentic instrument to revive the music of that time in an authentic way.
It has 13 strings and an adjustable neck.

The sound is very beautiful, virtuosic and suitable for concerts. It has a great clarity to the sound and provides ta great tonal flexibility. It has all the magic that only an old, masterfully built romantic guitar can create.
The guitar has a good response and can be surprisingly loud. At the same time it preserves a wide range of beautiful timbres in all registers.

The condition is very good for its age. Slight restorations have been made to bring the guitar into a playable and fully stable condition.
