Domingo Esteso 1931 Lute – a great instrument, beautifully built with excellent sound.
The Spanish guitar maker Domingo Esteso Lopez was one of the great guitar makers of the early 20th century, and he apprenticed with Manuel Ramirez. After Manuel Ramirez’s death, he opened his own shop in Calle Gravina, where his 13-year-old nephew Faustino Conde joined in 1926 and Mariano Conde in 1929. After his death at the end of 1937, Faustino and his two brothers, Mariano and Julio Conde, continued their work under the label Vda y Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso. The guitars of Domingo Esteso are considered monumental and historic, some of them are exhibited in the great museums of the world and tell an important part of the history of the Spanish guitar.
This lute is from 1931 and is a very fine instrument. It is in good condition with only a few professional repairs. It has a spruce top and beautiful pearwood back and sides.
The richness of sound of this lute is definitely on the same level as Esteso’s outstanding guitars. It has developed a characterful vintage sound over the years – sweet and warm but also very powerful.
This very poetic instrument is truly unique. The clear and charming trebles have a wonderful timbre and the deep, dark basses have a very mysterious aura.
It comes with the original case.
