Beschreibung

Carl August Otto 1843 – Early Romantic guitar from Germany – beautifully crafted with a very good sound!

Carl August Otto (1801 – 1883) was a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (as a double bass player) and a violin and plucked string instrument maker who also made all kinds of experiments and inventions. The most famous of these is his five-string double bass (C-E-A-D-G), which was highly praised by Richard Wagner, Billow, Nikisch and others. However, it did not really catch on due to the difficulty of playing it in concert. The royal collection of old musical instruments in Berlin owns one of his violins. He was also highly regarded as a dealer in old violins.
During his active period, he probably made instruments in various cities … Weimar, Leipzig and Ludwigslust. He was also an instrument maker for the royal court.

This finely crafted guitar has a spruce top and maple back and sides. The nut width is 45 mm and the scale length is 624 mm.

The guitar sounds fantastic and can compete with the best instruments of the time.
It has a very charming sound, perfect for approaching the authentic sound of the music of composers such as Sor, Giuliani, Aguado, Legnani, Diabelli, Carulli, Coste … …
A dream guitar that produces a fine sound with the most beautiful timbres. It also has the volume and power one would expect from such a guitar.

The condition is very good for its age. It has been restored and is very playable. One of the machine heads has been replaced.

The guitar plays easily, with a straight neck and a pleasantly low action.
