Description
Jose Ramirez I 1907 – this fine guitar represents an impressive piece of guitar history – it sounds absolutely sweet!
A beautiful guitar from the workshop of Jose Ramirez I. It was built at a time when Jose I had already been working as an independent guitar maker for 25 years (his workshop was founded in 1882).
Jose Ramirez I was the outstanding guitar maker at that time and is considered the forefather of guitar building in Madrid. It was indeed the case that the guitarists of that time were looking for solutions to the poor sound of the guitars built at that time. They turned to Jose Ramirez, who then created the so-called tablao guitar. The inner structure of this guitar was completely in line with the style and pattern of Torres guitars.
This beautiful guitar was built for a classical guitarrist. The bridge has a higher position as other Ramirez guitars of that time and the dimensions are exactly as the classical guitars by Torres. The nut width is 51 mm and the scale length 650 mm. It has a spruce top and cypress back and sides.
The sound of this Jose Ramirez is absolutely charming and elegant. It fascinates immediately with a warm and sweet tone. It has has all the qualities of an high end handmade guitar of the late 19th century in Torres’ style, with the sound resonating off the top, back and sides. It has a loose sound with great basses. The higher registers are incredibly sweet and sensuous. This guitar sings beautifully – it can accommodate virtually any style of music with great charm and elegance.
It is a lively guitar and a lot of fun to play … hard to put it down.
The condition of the guitar is very good for its age and it plays easily, with a low action and a straight neck.
