Ernst Mönning is a guitar maker who was born in Vienna and worked there for many years. Familiar with the Viennese guitar building, he later went to Munich, where he built guitars until the end of his life.

The contra (Schrammel) guitar type was invented in Vienna in the middle of the 19th century and quickly became very popular.
Famous guitar makers such as Johan Georg Stauffer, Johann Gottfried Scherzer and Franz Angerer built such instruments.
The contra guitar is excellent for accompaniment in folk music and Schrammel music. Nowadays it is also used in modern music and jazz.
